I'm turning the big FOUR-O, and my mother thinks that I should cut my hair. She feels that I'm too old to have hair to the middle of my back. She thinks a 40-year-old should have a short hair. I've tried short hair styles in my 20's, and didn't like how I looked. My husband doesn't seem to have an opinion, and my friends say they like my hair. Does age make a difference in how long one's hair should be?

Dear To Cut or Not,
No, there is no rule about what length hair someone should have for their age. Some magazines have had articles about hair lengths for different ages. But, it's not about age, it's about what style looks and feels best for you. Notice the two Janes, Jane Seymour and Jane Fonda; both had very long hair when they were well over 50. Wear the style with which you feel comfortable.
