The type of roofing material selected depends on your style of home and region or state of residence. Some regions have restrictions or banned wood shake roofs because they are a fire hazard.

The roofing material style and quality are important in order to enhance the curb appeal of your home. Composition shingle roofs are popular and more affordable, but may not enhance the look of your home. For example, on a brick Tudor style house, some people prefer a wood shake roof. Spanish or Mediterranean style homes look nice with clay tile roofs. Slate or stone roofs look fine on most any style home and cost the most, but lasts the longest.
