Promise Ring Right or Left

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

My boyfriend gave me a promise ring and I gave him one as well. We figured we were too young to get engaged, so this was the best way to show we want to spend the rest of our lives together. The only problem is we don't know for sure which finger the ring should go on. Should we both wear it on our wedding finger? But, would everyone think that we are engaged?
