Meeting Parents First Time - What To Wear





Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

I'm meeting my boyfriend's parents for the first time at a dinner party in two weeks. My boyfriend says to dress like I normally do, which is very casual, jeans, Nike shoes, t-shirt. The party is casual he says, but I'm not so sure. What do you think I should wear? My boyfriend says he's wearing his jeans.

When meeting someone's parents for the first time, it's never wrong to err on the side of conservative. Since it's a dinner party, dress more conservatively, but still casual. Wear nice pants and a nice top, no cleavage or bare midriff. If you feel like being dressier, wear a casual dress or skirt knee length or longer and nice top. Your boyfriend can wear what he likes, it's his parents. But, you're making a first impression, and it does matter.
