Gift for Host of Dinner Party

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

This weekend I will be going to a preholiday dinner party with a man I recently started dating. This will be the first time I'll be meeting any of his friends. Should I bring something to the host, and if so what, any suggestions?

Yes, bring the host a gift. You can never go wrong with bringing a nice bottle of wine, unless the host does not drink. Don't expect the host to serve the wine you bring. If you don't want to give wine, then a delicious box of candy would be okay, too. Again, don't expect the candy to be served as the host may have a special dessert planned.
