Eyelash Enhancers Grow Longer Thicker Lashes

Dear Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee,

My eyelashes are shorter and thinning out because of using mascara, lash curler, and wiping my eye makeup off. So, I stopped using mascara for two weeks, but my lashes are still short. Will my lashes grow back to normal? Someone told me that I should get eyelash growing serum?

It takes time for new lashes to appear. Your eyelashes should grow back in about one to two months.

Eyelash enhancers may help strengthen lashes for longer thicker lashes. Generally, the treatment is applied to the lash line similar to liquid eyeliner. The treatment may take a month or more before any results can be seen.

There has been some controversy about eyelash enhancers. In 2007, the FDA had seized Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash because it contained bimatoprost, a drug used to treat elevated pressure inside the eye or glaucoma, which is FDA-approved for that particular use. Because Marini did not show that bimatoprost was safe and effective for use as an eyelash enhancer, the FDA considered Age Intervention Eyelash to be an adulterated product. The FDA noted that the bimatoprost in the Marini Age Intervention Eyelash may cause adverse effects such as swelling of the retina and eye inflammation that could lead to decreased vision.
