Engagement party invitations can be mailed 2-6 weeks before the celebration.

On the other hand, engagement announcements are normally spread by word of mouth and can also be published in the local newspaper. The parents of the engaged couple should be the first know and told verbally by the couple. The couple should also let other immediate family know about their engagement before it gets printed in the newspaper.
